Microcement is the final layer in the system. It is used to create the finished texture, color, and overall appearance of the surface.

This product is recommended for walls.  If wall is perfectly smooth product can be rolled on while still wet finish with a trowel in a cloud pattern.

Micro-Quartz (Smooth) – Plaster Effect finish with an extensive variety of application styles. Stucco Effect, Smooth Over Coarse, Duo Colour, and Plain / Natural. No visible grains, suitable for walls, bathrooms, and wet area walls.

Coverage: 600 sq ft on the first coat, 725 sq ft on the second for the 5 gallon bucket. 300 sq ft on the first coat, 360 for the second coat for the 2.5 gallon bucket. Second coat cures in 12 hours. Coverage varies based on substrate and application thickness.

Available in a 5-gallon or 2.5-gallon pail. The coverage above is for the 5-gallon pail. The 2.5-gallon covers half.

How to apply

5 steps

  1. 1

    Prep and dampen

    If using the Reinforced system, sand the build coat. Remove dust and debris, vacuum thoroughly, then lightly mist with water.

    Add tint colorant

    For tint amounts, see the colorant calculator. Mix well for 3 minutes with an electric mixer. Do not undermix.

  3. 3

    Roll and trowel

    Roll on, then float in a cloud pattern with a plastic or steel trowel.

    Let dry

    2 hours.

    Second coat

    Sand the surface smooth before the second coat. Repeat all steps for the second finish coat.

How much do I need?

Finish

Coarse is the base texture. Medium sits in between. Smooth goes further and covers more per pail.

Pail size

For build coat and microcement. A 2.5-gallon pail covers half as much. It suits small jobs, but costs more per sq ft.

How much to mix, and how much color

Enter the area you are covering. We work out how much Smooth to weigh out for each coat, whether you need a whole pail or only part of one, and how much colorant goes into it. Includes 10% extra for waste.

Enter an area to see the amounts.

  • Weigh the Smooth first, then weigh the colorant into it. Mix for 3 minutes with an electric mixer.
  • Color is set by weight, so coat 1 and coat 2 come out the same shade even though coat 1 uses more material.
  • Mix one batch at a time and reseal the pail. Do not tint a whole pail if you only need part of it.
  • Use these amounts only. Microvella needs less colorant than other microcements, so other brands' charts will come out too dark.
  • Coverage varies based on substrate and application thickness.
